A jewellery report or certificate gives you written evidence of the current value and you can document this to an insurance company in the event of damage (burglary, water damage, fire etc.). The same applies in the event of inheritance or estate, because the tax office also needs evidence of the value of an estate to calculate any inheritance tax.
